New Energy Exchange Program
Singers who have graduated from high school and are in a post-secondary program of some sort are invited to apply to sing with the Chamber or AFGM choir programs in special mentorship roles as part of our new “energy exchange program.” The energy exchange program allows for graduates to participate in these two choirs through contributions of mentorship, leadership, fundraising, and specific contributions (setting up at concerts) in exchange for free tuition which many post-secondary students cannot afford.
The OCC is very proud of this new program as we feel that these older graduates are very much contributing to the culture of our Chamber and A Few Good Men choir programs and that they, ultimately, make the choirs stronger, help in growing our numbers, and strengthen our overall organization.

Double GOLD win at the World Choir Games in Cincinnati!

Senior and Chamber choirs have each won gold at the World Choir Games - the Olympics of choral music and the largest international choral competition in the world - in Cincinnati where 362 choirs from 48 countries participated.
Choristers – who returned home July 8 - represented Oakville and Canada when they competed July 5. The Senior Choir won gold in The Open Competition: Category 3, Youth Choirs of Equal Voices and the Chamber Choir won gold in The Open Competition: Category 13, Musica Sacra.
"We are so proud and excited about our amazing results at the international competition level at the World Choir Games," said OCC Artistic Director, Sarah Morrison.
"I am so proud of our Oakville Children's Choir, who recently performed at the World Choir Games and brought home two gold standings. They are evidence of the fact that Oakville creates champions. Let's do what our community does best - support our choir by attending their concerts as they prepare to represent our town at the next World Choir Olympics in Latvia in 2014."

"The OCC had such a fantastic experience at The Games this past week. It is a thrill to represent Canada and bring home gold but more than that, it was incredible for our young people of the OCC to meet other young people in choirs from around the world and make new international friendships," said Morrison, music director of the Senior Choir and the Chamber Choir.
"It was so neat to see the young people meet and informally start singing together in the streets of Cincinnati - the joy of singing - this is what the Games are all about!"
In competition, the Senior Choir performed a dramatic piece called Mulligatawny Macbeth which achieved top marks at the Peel Music Festival in April. The Open Competition is judged by a panel of five international adjudicators who gave each competing choir a score. Senior, Chamber and Indigo Voices also participated in two friendship concerts with other choirs from China, The Czech Republic and the U.S.A.
Senior and Chamber choristers have been working diligently all year for the World Choir Games – previously held in such countries as Austria, China, Germany and South Korea. Choristers departed on Tuesday July 3 with Morrison as well as Janet Stachow, Associate Music Director, Cheryl Duvall, OCC Accompanist, and parent chaperones.
Training in the Cherub and Intermediate choirs – often for several years – prepares choristers for the challenges and competitions of the Senior and Chamber choirs.
"The trip to the World Choir Games was life-changing for our choristers! They met so many people who share the love of choral music," said Stachow, Music Director of the Intermediate Choir and the very young Preparatory "Little Notes" Choir.
"Achieving a gold level diploma for both the Senior and Chamber choirs was a great achievement and we are all so proud of their work and dedication!" said Stachow who also assists with directing the Chamber Choir.
"It goes to show that their commitment and growth moving through the different levels of the OCC training choirs (Prep, Cherub, Intermediate) prepares them so well to participate in international tours. They were excellent ambassadors for Oakville and the OCC."
