The Choirs of the OCC
The OCC's seven choirs provide a comprehensive music education program for up to 200 auditioned choristers ranging in age from 4 through 25 years. The season runs from September 2016-May 2017.
Little Notes Preparatory Choir Program... (Tuesdays 5:00 - 5:30pm)
The Oakville Children's Choir Preparatory Choir Program, affectionately known as "Little Notes" is a fun and enriching introduction to choral singing and music for children ages 4 to 6 years. With a curriculum running from September 2016 to May 2017, children are introduced to the musical arts and singing through song, games rhythm and Orff instruments. Rehearsals are held at St. Simon's Church in Oakville..
Cherub Choir...(Tuesdays 6:00pm - 6:45pm)
The Cherub Choir is comprised of singers in grades 2 to 4. In this ensemble, the children are introduced to the basics of choral singing and music theory. The commitment to this choir involves a weekly one-hour rehearsal, weekly musicianship and theory, several annual performances including performing at each of our self produced concerts and no out-of-town travel. Cherub choristers may expect to miss an average of two half-days of school. Rehearsals are held at St. Simon's Church in Oakville.
Intermediate Choir...(Mondays 5:00pm - 6:15pm)
The Intermediate Choir is comprised of boys and girls in grade 4 and up. The choir rehearses weekly for 1.25 hours with weekly theory and musicianship programs. The Intermediate Choir participates in all OCC concerts, choral retreats and workshop, performs at several community events, and participates in competitions, with some
travelling within Ontario. Rehearsals are held at St. Simon's Church in Oakville.
Senior Choir...(Mondays 6:00pm - 8:15pm)
The Senior Choir is comprised of singers in grades 7 and up. The members of this ensemble are required to have sight singing skills as well as vocal experience. Weekly two-hour rehearsals, sectionals, theory, individual vocal coaching and musicianship programs are all a part of the choral program at the Senior Choir level. The Senior Choir begins each season with the annual choral retreat weekend. Choristers must commit to numerous performance opportunities in the community, as well as out-of-town. The Senior Choir undertakes a major tour every other year with the next tour taking places in summer of 2017.
Chamber Choir...(Mondays 8:15pm - 9:00pm; select Tuesdays 7:30pm - 9:00pm)
The Chamber Choir is a select group of choristers from the Senior Choir who have attained a higher level of vocal skill and musicianship. Chamber Choir members are frequently called upon to serve as ambassadors for our community and leaders within the organization. This small group of dedicated choristers performs extensively and receives more opportunities to travel. Rehearsals are held at St. Simon's Church in Oakville.
A Few Good Men in Training (Saturdays 9:15am - 10:15)
A Few Good Men in Training is comprised of boys in grades 1-4, and lays the vocal and musical foundation boys need in order to thrive in A Few Good Men. Focus is placed on helping boys begin to develop a strong vocal technique and learn basic theory rudiments in a safe, supportive and fun environment. Rehearsals take place at Linbrook Boys School in Oakville.
A Few Good Men ...(Saturdays 10:30am - 1:00pm)
A Few Good Men is Halton Region’s premier boys and men’s choir, comprising of boys ages 9 to 29 (grades 4 and up). AFGM is a true team environment, with development of strong mentor/mentee relationships forming between the older and younger boys. Rehearsals intersperse time spent on singing technique and repertoire, with teambuilding activities that focus on creating a strong camaraderie between the boys and young men. Rehearsals take place at Linbrook Boys School in Oakville.
Fewer Good Men ...(Select Saturdays)‘Fewer Good Men’ is the OCC's newest ensemble. They are a select group of singers from ‘A Few Good Men’. These singers have attained a higher level of vocal skill and musicianship. Fewer Good Men is similar to the OCC’s all-girls Chamber Choir. They are often called upon to serve as ambassadors for our community and leaders within the organization. This small group of dedicated choristers performs with the OCC and AFGM as well as doing performances on their own in the community. The program includes advanced musicianship, additional performance opportunities, as well as mentorship.
